The DDRA, which is a Scottish Charity based in Edinburgh,
was set up by Dorothy Dunnett, and aims to promote interest in her novels
and the historical background in which they take place. This is mainly
done by the publishing of the magazine Whispering
Gallery which is published quarterly and distributed to members
world wide. Whispering Gallery contains Dunnett related articles, and
letters from readers. Submissions are welcomed from members.
The DDRA also encourages the running of meetings at which members meet
to discuss Dorothy Dunnett's work and, often, listen to expert speakers
on topics of historical interest. Details of affiliated meetings
can be found on these pages. The DDRA Annual General Meeting is held
every spring in Edinburgh, and is part of a weekend of Dunnett events.
Dorothy Dunnett wrote The Lymond Chronicles, a series of six historical
novels set in the 16th century. This was followed by The House of
Niccoló, eight books set in the 15th century. She also wrote
an epic novel about Macbeth, King Hereafter, and seven thrillers featuring
the enigmatic Johnson Johnson. She was awarded the OBE in 1992 and
was married to Sir Alastair Dunnett. She died in November 2001 and
is greatly missed.
