I've been fascinated with this for years.  I first saw it in 1979, I believe, and the last time I was there (with my family in 2001), I spent an inordinate amount of time figuring out where Tom Erskine went, where the arquebusier was hiding, how the shot “raking the stone coping of the balcony, acquired missiles and satellites of its own and struck home not once but several times.”
