Whispering Gallery was founded in the USA in 1984 by Jean Clissold and Karen Brandl as the Letterzine "Marzipan and Kisses". In recent years it has been published in Edinburgh, originally by the Dorothy Dunnett Foundation, and now by its successor organisation the Dorothy Dunnett Readers' Association.
